TDOE issues trauma-informed designation to several local schools
24 schools in Northeast TN have been designated as trauma informed schools by state education officials.
The Tennessee Department of Education selected more than 170 schools across the state to be apart of the second group of trauma informed schools.
This designation recognizes schools for emphasis on utilizing trauma-informed strategies to provide support to students. The department of education says schools that have these strategies have seen improvements areas like school climate, teacher satisfaction, and attendance while suspensions and expulsions have decreased.
Below is the list of schools in Northeast Tennessee to receive that designation:
*Vance Middle/Tennessee Middle (Beginning 2021 school year)– Bristol TN City Schools
*Fairmount Elementary– Bristol TN City Schools
*Haynesfield Elementary School– Bristol TN City Schools
*Holston View Elementary– Bristol TN City Schools
*Nolachuckey Elementary– Greene County Schools
*Doak Elementary– Greene County Schools
*West Greene Middle School– Greene County Schools
*South Greene High School– Greene County Schools
*Mt. Carmel Elementary School– Hawkins County Schools
*Surgoinsville Elementary School– Hawkins County Schools
*Doe Elementary– Johnson County Schools
*Roan Creek Elementary– Johnson County Schools
*Theodore Roosevelt Elementary– Kingsport City Schools
*Emmett Elementary– Sullivan County Schools
*Mary Hughes School– Sullivan County Schools
*Indian Springs Elementary– Sullivan County Schools
*Central Heights Elementary School– Sullivan County Schools
*Rock Springs Elementary– Sullivan County Schools
*Sullivan Heights Middle School– Sullivan County Schools
*Holston Elementary School– Sullivan County Schools
