Watauga County officers receive police escort back to Boone

The bodies of Watauga County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Chris Ward and K-9 Officer Logan Fox received a police escort from Winston-Salem back to Boone Friday.
The two officers were ambushed by a suspect Wednesday when the men conducted a welfare check on George and Michelle Ligon who had not reported for work that day.
Sheriff Len Hagaman said a Boone policeman was wounded along with a town fireman and Appalachian State officer as they tried to rescue the two officers.
GoFundMe accounts are active to set up a trust fund for Ward’s children and help Fox’s family with financial needs.
