State Police identify SUV driver critically injured in school bus collision in Russell County

The driver who slammed his SUV into the back of a Russell County school bus earlier this week has been identified by the Virginia State Police.

Jeffery S. Bush, 29, of Castlewood, suffered life-threatening injuries and remains hospitalized following the Tuesday crash on Highway 58 in the Bolton community near Hawkins Mill Road.

The bus’s lights and other safety equipment were activated at the time of impact. A preliminary report said Bush failed to stop in time.

One student was treated for minor injuries. State Police said charges are pending.
