Court report: Illinois truck driver groomed teen girl from Lee County, Virginia

An Illinois truck driver charged with transporting a minor over state lines then having sex with the teen girl has pleaded guilty to that federal charge.

Prosecutors said David Kyle Skaggs struck up a friendship with a 15-year-old boy from Lee County, Virginia along with her family including his 13-year-old sister.

Skaggs, 33, reportedly took the teens on a cross-country trip in August 2015 and supplied them with alcohol. A subsequent sexual encounter between Skaggs and the girl resulted in a pregnancy.

Skaggs is scheduled for sentencing in US District Court in Abingdon on Sept. 30 where he could receive up to 10 years in prison.
