Grundy Man To Be Charged With Murder, Following Apparent, Failed Murder-Suicide Attempt

A Grundy Virginia woman is dead and her husband is in the hospital suffering from a self inflicted gunshot wound in what appears to be an apparent failed, murder-suicide attempt. Buchanan County Sheriff’s officers responded Monday afternoon, on Material Road, near Lick Branch and Slate Creek Roads in response to a shooting. Upon arrival, deputies found 68 year old Barbara Anne Hartford of Grundy, inside the home deceased as a result of a gunshot wound. At the same time, officers also discovered 66 year old Harold Harvey Hartford, also of Grundy, alive, but suffering from a self inflicted gunshot wound. Hartford was flown to a local hospital for treatment of non life threatening injuries. Hartford will be arrested on First Degree Murder charges following his release from the hospital.
