Carter County Commission votes to provide animal shelter with more funding
Carter County Commissioners voted to provide the Elizabethton Animal Shelter with additional funding. This vote comes one month after commissioners cut the shelter’s budget by over $70,000. The shelter made a Facebook post in late July informing the community about this budget cut, which resulted in the shelter suspending all animal control services in Carter County. The online post received heavy circulation by locals, and many community members reached out to Carter County leaders with a plea to reassess the budget. County Commissioners voted this week to provide the shelter with additional funding under one condition: the City of Elizabethton pays too. Two more readings on this matter are required before a final decision is made.
