Harrington resignation from Bluff City BMA included in agenda for special meeting

Ray Harrington has reportedly decided to resign just after the death of Bluff City Mayor Irene Wells.

An item on a special-called meeting for Monday shows Harrington’s resignation listed on the agenda. Selection for a new mayor is also included in the proceedings for the board of aldermen.

Sullivan County Mayor Richard Venable had noted that Harrington had been installed as mayor and town manager following Wells’ death.

Memorial services for Wells are scheduled to take place in Bluff City on Sunday.

Her obituary noted that the mayor was able to secure $5,000 bonuses for town workers prior to her passing for their efforts during the pandemic.
