Former Kingsport cop indicted in case of inmate assault
A former Kingsport police officer turned herself in following an indictment on two counts of simple assault by a grand jury after she was accused of striking an inmate while on the job.
The report from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation says Laiken Whitlock, 29, struck a handcuffed prisoner after the inmate spat on her while being placed in her cell.
That incident occurred in September of last year. An investigation was ordered by District Attorney Barry Staubus the next month.
Whitlock was issued a $3,500 bond.
