Lawmakers Grappling Over Start Date For Legalized Sales Of Recreational Pot

It’s still early in the political season in Richmond Virginia. But one issue that is taking root and growing is an attempt to speed up the sales of recreational marijuana in the Commonwealth. Last year lawmakers in Virginia approved and legalized possession of an ounce of the weed as well as home cultivation of four marijuana plants for anyone 21 or older. Current law sets January 1 of 2024 for legal sales of recreational pot. But that plan requires additional approval in a newly divided state government. One that Republicans now have more leverage to debate the issue with.
