More Than 22 Million Dollars In Federal Funds To Help SWVA Reclaim Unsafe, Abandoned Mines
The decline of coal mining in Southwest Virginia had many effects, including job loss, health care and environmental concerns. Now, Southwest Virginia’s United States Senator Mark Warner is announcing more than 22 million dollars to fund support for eliminating dangerous environmental conditions and pollution caused by past coal mining in the region. The money is made possible through the passage of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. The money will be used to revitalize energy communities by reclaiming unsafe, abandoned mine lands for new use.
