Roan Mountain brush fire spreads 90 acres, 40 percent contained

A bush fire on Roan Mountain has burned at least 90 acres and is 40 percent contained, as of 5 PM on Friday. Roan Mountain Fire officials say local, state, and federal forestry units have been on scene all day Friday near Moreland Gap Road, after a brush fire was reported Thursday night.

Dry, windy conditions work against crews as they continue to battle the blaze, which is happening near the Tennessee-North Carolina Border. Roan Mountain State Park officials say the fire has not yet affected any park property.
