Tennessee State Parks’ Tires to Trails project nationally recognized

Tennessee State Parks has been nationally recognized for its Tires to Trails project, which repurposed old tires into a more than two-mile walking path—one of the longest rubber-made trails in the country. The project consisted of volunteers collecting illegally discarded tires, which were sent to a facility in Bristol, the only one of its kind in the state, to process into rubber crumbs. The material was then turned into the 2.5 mile-long trail in Memphis.

TN State Parks was given the Project Excellence Award from the Society of Outdoor Recreation Professionals, a national organization that annually presents these awards, at its convention in Knoxville.
