Hiker Rescued Near Tennessee North Carolina Border By Army National Guard
A hike suffering cardiac distress on the Appalachian Trail near Gatlinburg is rescued by a crew of Tennessee Army National Guard medical personnel on a UH-60 Blackhawk helicopter. The 56 year old hiker stopped at a shelter near on the Tennessee, North Carolina border, near Gatliburg. Two crew members were lowered by a hoist to the ground and retrieved the hiker to the helicopter. The Blackhawk copter then flew twenty minutes to UT Medical Center’s emergency room. The entire rescue mission took less than an hour.
