Sycamore Shoals fund raiser tops Tennessee’s license plate list for 2023
A license plate whose sales benefit a Northeast Tennessee state park has been named the best-selling tag in the state in 2023.
More than 36,000 auto owners in the state purchased the ‘Don’t Tread on Me’ edition specialty plate. That earned the Friends of Sycamore Shoals Historic Area group in Elizabethton over $619,000 for the year.
The agency takes $35 from every special plate sale and earmarks it for groups and organizations. Friends of the Smokies was second. The American Eagle Foundation and Agriculture and Wildlife tags rounded out the top 5.
The data is provided in a yearly review produced by the Tennessee Department of Revenue that was released this week.
