Virginia legislative session begins with State Of The State
Virginia senators and delegates heard Governor Glenn Youngkin give his State of the Commonwealth address on the first day back in session for the General Assembly. Gov. Youngkin told lawmakers that Virginia is stronger than it’s been in a long time. He also talked about many assembly initiatives and priorities in his speech, saying Virginia needs to change the state’s tax code. Youngkin’s budget plan includes cuts to the state income tax while raising the state sales tax. Democrats, controlling both chambers this term, brought up education, abortion and voting rights, and stricter gun control legislation as some of their top priorities for this session.
