Driest June on record leads to Washington County, Virginia burn ban
The US Drought Monitor places Washington County, Virginia in their moderate drought index category.
The lack of rain and consecutive 90-degree days have led to the decision by the county’s Emergency Management agency to impose an open burning ban until further notice and the warning is for both public and private properties. The ban comes on the heels of new data from NOAA weather techs who proclaimed last month the driest June in its history.
The agency’s news for Tennessee is not great, as well, with little to no precipitation expected for several weeks.
