Bluff City soldier killed in Korean War now accounted for
A U.S. Army soldier from Bluff City who was killed during the Korean War has now been accounted for, nearly 74 years after he was reported missing in action. The Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency says that 19 year old, Pvt. 1st Class Arlie P. Barrett was accounted for on June 7 and his family was recently briefed on his identification. Barrett was a member of Easy Company, 2nd Battalion, 19th Infantry Regiment, 24th Infantry Division. He was reported missing in action on Aug. 10, 1950, after his unit engaged the North Korean People’s Army near Yongsan, South Korea. Barrett’s remains had been buried as an unknown in the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific in Hawaii. Forensic analysis was used to identify the remains. Barrett will be buried at Mountain Home National Cemetery on Sept. 27.
