USP Lee inmate dies after “perceived altercation”
An inmate in a Southwest Virginia prison has died, according to the Department of Justice. 37 year old Jefferson Arango Castellanos was found unresponsive at U.S. Penitentiary Lee Tuesday afternoon. Officials said employees performed life-saving measures until emergency medical services arrived. Castellanos was then taken to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. No other inmates or employees were injured. Castellanos was serving a 585-month sentence for conspiracy to kidnap an internationally protected person, among other charges.
