Driver killed in Russell County crash

A driver in Russell County was killed following a single-vehicle crash in the Elk Garden area.

A preliminary report from the Virginia State Police said Jeffery Cantrell, 33, of Washington County, Virginia, died at the scene of the December 7th crash on Route 19 northbound.

Investigators said Cantrell’s car went off the right side of the road, hit an embankment, and went airborne. The report said the impact caused the car to overturn several times, land on its top, and then catch fire. The wreck remains under investigation.
