Attempted murder charges filed against driver in White Pine hit-and-run wreck

An East Tennessee pedestrian that police said was deliberately hit by a vehicle was listed in critical but stable condition at a Knoxville hospital.

A report from police in White Pine said evidence collected at the scene of the incident on Wheeler Road indicated a hit and run crash. They received details of threatening statements that James Locklear, 51, made before the wreck.

Locklear was arrested and then charged with attempted first-degree murder. The Highway Patrol assisted White Pine authorities in the investigation.
