Officials: Virginia Fire Season Could be Most Severe in Many Years

Fire season is underway in Virginia in what officials are calling potentially the most severe in several years.

Virginia Governor Ralph Northam made the announcement Tuesday, stating the risk is greater for fires this fall due to lengthy dry conditions and below average rainfall. 39 localities, including several in Southwest Virginia, have issued burn bans, which could grow if dry conditions persist.

State officials stress to make appropriate decision if deciding to burn during this time.
