Tennessee’s Infant Mortality Rate Drops To Lowest Rate In Three Years
The infant mortality rate is a critical indicator of the overall health of any state. And Tennessee’s Department of Health is reporting the lowest infant mortality rate in the state in three years. There were 38 fewer infant deaths during 2018 compared with the rate in 2017. Tennessee’s rate fell to six point nine deaths per one thousand live births in 2018…down from the previous year’s rate of seven point four percent. Infant mortality is defined as the death of a child before his or her first birthday. Tennessee’s infant mortality rate is still above the national rate of five point eight percent.
