VSP: Sunday Fatal Crash in Washington County Under Investigation

Virginia State Police have launched an investigation following a fatal crash Sunday evening in Washington County, VA.

According to spokesperson Corinne Geller, a 2015 Nissan Sentra was traveling north on Interstate 81 at an extremely slow speed without its lights on. It then reportedly came to a complete stop, and a 2011 Honda CRV, also traveling north, was unable to avoid the stopped Sentra, striking it, which caused the Sentra to spin off the road and hit an embankment. The driver of the Nissan, Charles Johnson, 86, of Rogersville, TN, died at the scene. The driver of the Honda was not injured.

A medical emergency is being considered as a factor in the accident.
