600+ Miners furloughed at Coronado Coal in Buchanan County

Over 600 miners have been furloughed until January 1st at a coal mine in Buchanan County, VA.

According to Tarah Kesterson with the Virginia Department of Mines, Minerals, and Energy, they were informed by Coronado Coal on December 16th that they would idle their mines and the workers at the Vansant site would be furloughed. This decision was made as they wait on the U.S and China to agree on a trade deal for coal exports.

The company also told DMME Monday that they expect the mines to be back to full operations on the first day of the year.
