JCPD: Two men allegedly robbed victim, struck dog with machete

Two men have been charged following a reported home invasion in Johnson City on Sunday.

The Johnson City Police Department says they were called to a home at 140 Faith Circle, and were told by a victim that two masked men entered the residence by force, brandished weapons, and demanded property before fleeing the scene. The victim’s dog was struck in the face by a machete while trying to fight off the intruders, and it was treated for its injuries.

The two suspects, Matthew Austin Woodyard, 20, of Jonesborough and Antonio Eduardo Santos, 26, of Johnson City, were later found and captured, along with the recovery of some of the victim’s property.

During a records check, police discovered an outstanding warrant for Santos for Theft of Property over $1,000 (Motor Vehicle), Felony Evading Arrest, Driving on a Revoked License, and Stop Sign Violation. Santos was served the warrant, and both men were charged with Aggravated Burglary, Aggravated Robbery, Aggravated Cruelty to Animals, Burglary (Auto), and Theft of Property under $1,000.

Santos is being held on a $48,000 bond, while Woodyard is being held on a $38,000 bond. Both men are due in court this afternoon at 1:30 p.m.
