VA Special Olympics torch run gets underway today, Abingdon Police participating
A Virtual torch run for the Special Olympics in Virginia moved online due to COVID-19 is scheduled to begin today.
The Abingdon Police Department, who participates each year in the run, has formed a team and is encouraging the public to join officers in covering some miles. A press release from the department says they hope to cover 1,900 miles between Monday and Friday June 12th, which can be completed by running, walking, or biking. A virtual celebration will then be held Saturday for the final mile and celebratory dance.
The police department also hopes to fund-raise $2,500.
