UPDATE: TBI identifies suspect in fatal officer-involved shooting Friday night in Morristown
The TBI has assumed the lead in investigating an officer-involved shooting that left a suspect dead Friday night in Morristown.
Morristown Police were called to an apartment complex in the 1600 block of Chesnut Avenue Friday night around 11:30 p.m on a report of stabbing, and found a deceased woman, now identified as Wendy Pope, in a car with wounds to her neck.
Authorities found her husband, Ronald Pope, inside the couple’s apartment, who was reportedly armed. Police say he refused to comply with orders to drop his weapon, and allegedly raised his gun at officers, causing four officers to fire shots, which struck and killed him.
No officers were injured in the incident, which remains under investigation.
