US DOL Unemployment Claims Report 8/6: 37,680 new claims filed in TN and VA
Nearly 38,000 first-time unemployment claims were filed last week in Tennessee and Virginia.
The US Dept. of Labor weekly jobless claims report says for the week ending Aug. 1, Tennessee had 11,690 new claims, while in Northeast Tennessee, 1,004 new claims were filed, while 12,566 claims were continued.
In Virginia, 25,990 first-time jobless claims were filed.
Both Tennessee and Virginia experienced large first time claim decreases from the prior reporting week. Below is the state and local unemployment claims breakdown:
TN- 11,690 (19,461 last week, 7,771 less- last week’s number from the state department of labor)
VA- 25,990 (42,966 last week, 16,976 less)
