NEW: NTSB delivers final report on Earnhardt Jr. jet crash in Elizabethton
Pilot error was tabbed as a primary cause of a private jet that crashed last year during race week in Elizabethton that had Dale Earnhardt, Jr., and his family on board.
A final incident report issued Wednesday by the National Transportation Safety Board said the pilot and co-pilot described the plane’s speed as too fast on approach to Elizabethon Municipal Airport. That was followed by a hard landing that caused the craft to bounce four times skidding on the runway and eventually crashing.
The NTSB wrote that the pilot’s unstabilized approach combined with the landing’s impact resulted in the operator’s loss of control of the plane on the runway.
