Chancellor announces death of 19-year-old Appalachian State student from COVID virus

The head of Appalachian State University announced Tuesday the death of a student who contracted the COVID-19 virus.

Chad Dorrill, 19, was a sophomore student who lived off-campus and was studying to become a physical therapist. Chancellor Sheri Everts said Dorrill was diagnosed in his hometown of Ledford, North Carolina. He had just been cleared by doctors to return to Boone when he became ill once again and died late Monday.

Everts’ announcement comes as COVID cases are beginning to increase among App State’s student body. Tuesday’s dashboard data showed 159 students are now in isolation.
