UPDATE: SCC reiterates moratorium on cutoffs for utilities in Virginia ends Monday
Virginia Governor Ralph Northam’s request to state regulators to extend moratoriums on utility cutoffs for residents due to pandemic-related finance troubles has been denied.
A letter sent to Northam on Thursday from the State Corporation Commission said the current extension will end on Monday but customers are encouraged to request 12-month payment plans approved by their board that prohibits disconnections or late fees.
Northam ordered help for homeowners and renters during the early months of the pandemic that resulted in millions losing their jobs and income due to virus-related closures.
