Police: Knoxville man stalked and tracked ex-girlfriend in Sullivan County with smartphone app before kidnapping

A Knoxville man is in custody after police said he stalked and tracked his ex-girlfriend with a smartphone app then kidnapped her from a Sullivan County convenience store parking lot.

Michael Vaughn, 42, is also charged with aggravated domestic assault following the incident Thursday that began when family members of the victim reported she had traveled to the store and had not been heard from in several hours.

Investigators viewed surveillance footage from the store that showed Vaughn blocking the victim from leaving the lot and then getting into his car.

The couple was found at a motel on Commonwealth Avenue in Bristol, Virginia, where Vaughn was arrested. Police also reported that the victim had an active order of protection against Vaughn.
