UVa-Wise head baseball coach Hank Banner retiring in 2021

The leader of the University of Virginia’s College at Wise baseball program for more than two decades announced Thursday that the 2021 season will be his last.

Cavaliers head coach Hank Banner said his 30th year overall and 25th year as a coach will wind down in the spring. The Wise County school also announced that assistant Brandon Costa will be elevated to the associated head coach position.

Banner came to then Clinch Valley College in the late 1980s as a player after he won a state championship with Castlewood. He has compiled 477 wins at UVA-Wise during his career.
