Tazewell Police investigating Sunday night shooting which left woman injured and suspect dead

Tazewell, VA Police say a woman is injured and a suspect is dead following a shooting Sunday night.

Tazewell Chief of Police David Mills said his agency was called to a home on Muncy Lane just before midnight and a found a female with a gunshot wound at the residence that had apparent forced entry. Officers charged John Lester II, 48, of Tazewell, VA, with malicious wounding and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. A search for Lester later found him to be dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The incident is determined to be domestic in nature and remains under investigation. The woman’s condition is unknown at this time.
