THP: Blountville man accused of stealing commercial vehicle, crashing into and killing Johnson City man
A Blountville man is facing charges after TN state troopers say he stole a commercial vehicle, fled from authorities, and crashed head on into a car that killed a Johnson City man Monday night.
A Tennessee Highway Patrol crash report says they were notified by emergency dispatch to look for a stolen commercial vehicle, and located suspect Joshua Hammonds, 28, who was in the vehicle traveling south on Highway 36 from Sullivan into Washington County.
THP said Hammonds was driving erratically and without headlights, then allegedly ran from officers, running a red light at the Highway 36 and 75 intersection. Hammonds then crossed the centerline and struck Timmy Hensley, 60, head on around Ed Martin Rd.
Hensley was killed in the wreck, and charges are pending against Hammonds as the investigation is ongoing.
