Three people detained following shooting at Sevierville Walmart

A police official said three people were detained following a shooting Wednesday afternoon in Sevierville at a Walmart located off the Parkway.

Preliminary information from SPD spokesperson Bob Stahlke said no injuries were reported following a report of someone firing a gun inside the store at around 3 p.m.

Officers are now posted at both traffic entrances while a command post has been established at an adjacent business.

It marks the second shooting in the town in as many years. Police said an April 2019 incident at Tanger Outlet Mall was a random shooting that left two people dead. Investigators said the gunman had previous mental health problems.
