TN Highway Safety Office: 2020 on track to record most fatalities on Tennessee roadways since 2007
2020 is on pace to be the deadliest year on Tennessee roadways in 13 years.
Statistics from the Tennessee Highway Safety Office says as of Dec. 23, there have been a total of 1,189 fatalities from crashes, up by 80 from this time last year. With just one week left in the year, this year could reach or surpass the total number of deaths from crashes recorded in 2007 at 1,211 fatalities.
This August was also the deadliest month on Tennessee roadways since at least 2015 as 130 people were killed in crashes statewide. Locally, 111 people have died from wrecks this year in Northeast TN of Wednesday totals, as Sullivan County had the most with 22.
