Sullivan Co. DA to seek punishment of life in prison without parole in Boswell case

Prosecutors will not seek the death penalty in the case against Megan Boswell.

Sullivan County District Attorney Barry Staubus said during a court hearing on Friday the state has filed a notice with the court to seek a punishment of life in prison without parole if Megan is found guilty in a trial. Boswell faces 19 charges, all of which she has pled not guilty to, including two counts of felony murder, as she is accused of killing her infant daughter Evelyn, who was reported missing for weeks before being discovered on family property last March.

Boswell’s attorney Brad Sproles told Judge Goodwin he is still sifting through discovery items, while Staubus says additional discovery items will be presented soon. Boswell is due back in court for a status hearing on May 14.
