Virginia Sen. Tim Kaine, others reintroduce homeowner assistance funding bill
VA US Sen. Tim Kaine and fellow lawmakers have reintroduced a bill working to protect homeowners and communities from evictions, foreclosures, and utility shutoffs during the ongoing pandemic.
The legislation is a $75 billion Homeowners Assistance fund that would be distributed to communities nationwide using a formula to weigh state and national unemployment claims for allocation purposes.
“Congress has a responsibility to offer assistance to those in need, especially those who have been hit hardest by COVID-19,” Kaine said. “The Homeowner Assistance Fund would be an important step in addressing the housing insecurity many individuals and families across Virginia are experiencing, and will be crucial to our economic recovery.”
According to Sen. Kaine, the funding would build off of emergency rental assistance passed by Congress in December as part of the COVID-19 relief package.
