VDOE: State receiving nearly $1M federal grant for research on pandemic’s effects on Virginia schools

Virginia education officials have been awarded nearly $1 million from the federal government for a study on the effects of the pandemic on Virginia schools.

The three-year research aims to examine pre and post-pandemic trends in areas like student absenteeism, grade-level retention, teacher retention, enrollment in advanced courses, and career and technical education programs.

The project titled “Equity in Virginia’s Public Education System: A Longitudinal Examination Spanning the COVID-19 Shutdown” will also examine the effectiveness of school reopening and recovery plans that address the pandemic’s impact on students and teachers.
