Tennessee Senate unanimously approves ‘Evelyn’s Law’

Tennessee state senators have approved a measure working to require parents to report a missing child 12 years and younger to law enforcement within 24 hours.

The legislation called “Evelyn’s Law,” is named after Sullivan County toddler Evelyn Boswell, who was the subject of a two week statewide search before her remains were found on a family member’s property last March.

The bill states failure to report a child 12 years and younger missing within 24 hours could result in a Class A misdemeanor. The bills were introduced by local lawmakers Sen. Jon Lundberg and Rep. John Crawford.

The senate chamber unanimously passed the bill on Monday, and the house chamber could take a vote on the matter Thursday.
