Republican candidate Travis Hackworth takes unofficial victory in 38th District Virginia State Senate election
Republican Travis Hackworth is expected to become the next Virginia State Senator following his unofficial victory in Tuesday’s special election for the vacant 38th District seat.
Hackworth received more than 75% of the vote, defeating Democratic challenger Laurie Buchwald, who received a little over 23% of the vote. Close to 24,000 votes were cast across the district that covers nine counties and two cities, most of which are in our Southwest Virginia region.
The special election was called to fill the open seat left after former Senator Ben Chafin died in January from COVID-19 complications.
