Owner of digital powerhouse that produces ‘Fortnite’ donates valuable acres near Tennessee border
The man who built a digital empire with games like Fortnite and Gears of War is donating thousands of acres of mountains that closely border Carter and Unicoi County.
The Southern Appalachian Highlands Conservancy announced they are signing a letter of intent to accept 7,500 acres in the Roan Highlands near Yellow Mountain, North Carolina in Avery County —an area designated by the General Assembly for preservation in 2008.
The gift was presented by Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney who bought valuable parcels of land across the highlands for future preservation. Conservancy Executive Director Carl Silverstein said it’s the largest land donation in state history and one of the biggest in the US.
