NEW: Names of Watauga County standoff victims released
Authorities have released the names of the victims of a Watauga County, North Carolina standoff and more details surrounding their death.
Police said Michelle Ligon and her husband George died inside their Boone residence after being shot by Michelle’s son Isaac Barnes on Wednesday.
The couple did not report to work resulting in a welfare check at the home where Barnes wounded Watauga County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Chris Ward and K-9 Deputy Logan Fox.
Fox died at the scene while Ward was airlifted to a Johnson City hospital where he later died of his wounds. He received a police escort back to North Carolina early Thursday.
The 13-hour standoff with police ended when Barnes, 32, killed himself Thursday morning, according to sheriff’s officials.
