Carter County Commissioners Finally Approve 2022 Budget, With A Property Tax Decrease

It took several attempts Monday night, but Carter County Commissioners approved the 2022 budget which saw the tax rate drop. Commissioners approved the budget and dropped the county tax rate 44 cents down to a two dollar and three cents property tax rate. The decrease came about after a recent property reassessment increased property values. The commissions final budget allotment to the Rabies and Animal Control Department, which also includes Elizabethton and Carter County’s Animal Shelter and Animal Control was reduced by more than 71 thousand dollars.
