Carter County Mayor To Veto Eleven Cent Property Tax Proposal
It wasn’t needed and he plans to veto a proposed eleven cent Carter County property tax increase. That’s the word from Carter County Mayor Leon Humphreys who now says he has new data from the State Comptrollers Office showing the county has a fund balance of nearly ten million dollars. Mayor Humphreys believes commissioners should submitt a budget with a zero dollar tax increase. The proposed eleven cent property tax hike would place the county rate at two dollars and fifty eight cents, the second highest among the eight counties in the region. Commissioners will soon meet to discuss the issue in a special called meeting. The deadline to file a budget is August 15.
