SWVA Sustainability Agency Using Grant To Battle Supply Chain Issues For Harvesters
Specialty crops in Virginia, like ginseng, and other botanical plants rank as some of the top selling herbal supplements in the United States. But recent supply chain issues are causing problems for producers in southwest Virginia. A more than 200 hundred thousand dollar grant is being used by SWVA’s Appalachian Sustainable Development to assist harvesters of these lucrative plants as they mitigate supply chain issues. The agency is developing a Point of Harvest education program, as well as a regional distribution network, and assistance with Food Safety and Compliance regulations with the funds from the Virginia Dept of Agriculture and Consumer Services.
