Hawkins County resident rescued after truck washed away in flood waters
The quick action of specialized rescue teams helped in the recovery of a Hawkins County resident who was swept away by floodwaters Wednesday morning.
A preliminary review by the Tennessee Highway Patrol says the driver from Surgoinsville came to the end of a private driveway and his pickup truck was washed over by the rising creek at the property located off Carters Valley Road when he tried to navigate a bridge crossing.
The vehicle was sent nearly a half-mile downstream. The driver was identified in the THP report as 74-year old Edward Scribner. He was safely removed and was taken to an area hospital for treatment.
