States form coalition to warn credit card companies about tracking gun consumers

Tennessee and Virginia have joined 22 other states to alert major credit card companies of the creation of a recent Merchant Category Code that potentially tracks the purchase of guns in the U.S.

Attorney General Johnathan Skrmetti said the move is a potential violation of consumer protection and antitrust laws and the collusion is a threat to constitutional rights protected by the Second Amendment.

The coalition also warned retailers to stop participating in tracking firearm customers in order to avoid civil and criminal liability.
