SW Virginia hunters asked to help with Chronic Wasting Disease research

The Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources is asking deer hunters to help with Chronic Wasting Disease research. Each year, the department calls on regional hunters, processors, and taxidermists to help monitor the spread of CWD.

Chronic Wasting Disease is found in deer and spread through their bodily fluids; it’s an incurable neurological disease that ultimately results in death. Officials say the disease does not spread to humans or pets. Any deer killed in Carroll or Floyd counties on Saturday, Nov. 19th, is required to be taken to a CWD testing station.
